Top 10 SEO Tools for Daily Use
These are 10 of the top SEO tools the we use everyday on clients websites to get maximum results from our search engine marketing campaigns.
1. Compete Site Analytics- Compete gives you accurate data of monthly unique visitors to a website. This is extremely useful for competitive analysis of competitors, and also sizing up a prospective clients site for an SEO proposal. We have found it to be very accurate when we compare with Google analytics, or AWstats.
2. Google analytics- Every serious SEO or webmaster needs to be running Google free analytics software on their sites. The point of SEO is not rankings, or page rank its visitors! Stop guessing and start making statistically informed SEO decisions so that your effort can go into the things that are paying off.
3. SEOQuake Toolbar- This Firefox plugin is one of my favorite SEO tools at a glance I can see a site Page Rank, backlinks, Alexa ranking, domain age, and keyword density. The best part is it’s free.
4. Multiple Datacenter Search- Honestly Google does so much in the way of personalized search, geolocation, etc. that it can be hard to get the straight dope on where your ranking. The multiple datacenter search will show you search results for multiple google data centers so you can get a better feel for your rankings.
5. Wordtracker Firefox Plugin- If your like me you love Firefox for all the great extensions! One such extension is the Wordtracker Firefox Plugin you can see search volumes for search phrases on the fly without leaving your current page. Not as accurate as Google but great for naming Blog posts and making quick keyword decisions.
6. Google Keywords- The best overall free keyword research tool in my opinion. You can quickly be given hundreds of keyword suggesstions by entering keyword phrases, or by entering yours or competitors web address. This tool will show you monthly search volumes for each key word or phrase, and all suggested keywords can be exported to csv.
7. 301 Redirect Checker- 301 are useful for two reasons first so that search engines don’t see http://yoursite.com and www.yoursite.com as two sites. Also if a page moves the page rank can be reassigned to the new page through a 301 redirect. Make sure 301 redirects are set up correctly with this tool.
8. Yahoo Siteexplorer- Google notoriously under reports backlinks, and only gives you a sampling. With site explorer you can see what backlinks you have, and even better you can see competitors backlinks, and use those sites in your link building efforts. The best part is that it will export to a tab separated values file that can used in Excel.
9. XML Sitemap Generator- XML sitemaps are important to get your pages quickly indexed in a few minutes this tool will index your site up to 500 pages, and generate an xml sitemap. Be sure and sign up with Google Webmaster, Yahoo Site Explorer, and Bing Webmaster Center to tell these services the location of your sitemap.
10. Google Position Checker- With this tool you can see what position you rank in Google for a particular keyword up to the first 1,000 results.
Bonus! Backlink Builder- This tool searches your submitted keywords for sites that accept links directories etc.
Why Your Small Business Can’t Ignore Social Media Any Longer
Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn :-
If you’ve used the internet in the last year, or read news items, you’re probably wondering what all this buzz is about social networking. Take Facebook – once a place for college students to meet and greet has now gone mainstream. Another site, LinkedIn, is a social platform for professionals that has redefined the word networking. Finally, the microblogging platform Twitter has many small businesses trying to figure out just what to do with it. So as a small business owner, why should you care? Here are some reasons your company should get involved:
Exposure :-
If you’re looking to grow your business, you can use these tools to enhance your traditional marketing efforts. Just mention your Facebook or Twitter accounts in a direct mail, and gain more prospects as well as their information. Additionally, having social media pages for your company, especially on LinkedIn, oftentimes improves your search engine rankings.
Learn About Your Customer :-
Just as important as reaching your customer is learning about them. Social media tools allow you to learn what your customers like and dislike. These are important insights into their wants/needs and can help you develop your marketing plan. Also, it can give your customers a voice, and a chance to interact with you and ask questions before you end up losing them as a customer. We all know that the cheapest customer to acquire is the one you already have.
Monitor Your Reputation :-
Along with learning how your target market thinks, it’s important to learn what people think about your business. Through social media you can read what people are saying about your company and can handle possible damaging situations in a timely matter.
Free Publicity :-
Social media is the new press release. Marketing professionals have always advised business owners to work with their local media to get some free publicity. Now you can generate your own at no cost. However, social media sites take time and effort and can be addictive. So think strategically about how you want to use each of the tools, before diving in. You will save yourself a lot of time by making sure you do it right the first time.
Before you jump into social media, think strategy before technology. There are so many companies that set up a page, not knowing exactly what to do, and after it hasn’t been touched in a month it reflects poorly on their company. Take a look at what your competition is doing locally. Look at the trends in your industry. Social media is a give and take relationship anyway. You have to participate in the conversation and give people a reason to be interested in you before you can expect to get anything out of social media.

How to Post Everyday
Have you ever wondered how the top bloggers like Problogger and John Chow could post every day? The answer? They can’t. Yes even the great Darren Rowse and John Chow don’t spend hours everyday posting for their blog. So then what do they do? There is a handy little WordPress program called WordPress Timestamp. This program makes it so that you can post a post, anytime that you schedule it for. And the best part is, it comes standard with all WordPress Versions 2.6.5 and up. When you’re posting it’s right above the “Publish button and it looks like this.
You can easily set up the date and time, and this allows you to write posts weeks in advance. This is invalualbe if your scheldue is anything like mine, in which you can’t write every day, you don’t have the time. But you have blocks of time where you can post. But you can’t post five times in that one day. Using this tool you can write the week’s post in one day, and then the rest of the week you spend marketing them. What a time saver! Now you may be thinking, I thought this post was about “How to Post Everyday.” Well I’ve already written about how to overcome writer’s block, and get the post ideas. Using this tool in combination with that post, you’ll be able to have posts everyday, without even having to write every day.
One Word of Caution :-
Your WordPress clock may be set to a different time zone. When I first used this, I realized my WordPress clock is an hour ahead. So I said for it to post at 12:00 but on that clock it was already 1:00. So if I hadn’t realized that the post would not have posted on time. So just make sure either they’re both set to the same timezone, or you just line up the times right.
One Word of Advice :-
I don’t know if you’ve quite grasped this or not, but if you think carefully about what I just said, this is an incredible opportunity to get traffic. I just said that Problogger and John Chow use this, so that means that thier posts come at a certain time Everyday. Maybe you haven’t done any comment advertising yet, but the first comment on a popular post can get lots of traffic. For example, check out this post by How to Make my Blog on how much traffic he received from a comment. He got 239 visitors over a period of four days, for a five minute comment. So there is certainly great potential here. Now imagine you know what time they’re going to post everyday, and so you can go on the computer five minutes before refresh the page, and be the first one to comment. I’m not going to promise you 240 visits for every comment. But at least for me, it’s given me in the 25 visit range which isn’t very much, but it’s all been from Problogger and so it’s highly relevant traffic.
Steps for using this Information :-
So simply add these top blogs into an RSS reader. They post everyday, so check your reader and see approximately what hour they posted. Then the next day watch that hour. Once you have this information, you can be the first to comment, giving you some highly relevant traffic. Now this can help no matter what niche you are, just find the top blogger in your niche and implement the same tactics.
Disclaimer :-
Now, considering the rant I just had about spam commentors, I can’t just leave you with that, telling you to spam these top bloggers. Listen, if you’re going to contribute to the conversation then don’t worry about it. I’ve found several times where I’m the first one on the site, but I don’t end up being the first comment, because I spend sometime writing a quality comment. Don’t just write a quick good post. That won’t help you anyway because you won’t get traffic. People will click on your comment if it’s quality. So build the discussion, and then you’ll help everybody out.

Introduction to Article Submission
A good way to build authority and search engine rankings for your site is through article directories. They usually don’t generate a lot of traffic, but they do provide quality one-way links back to your site, and there’s always the possibility of the articles becoming popular and generating direct traffic. The two biggest directories are www.goarticles.com and www.ezinearticles.com. These are the best in terms of quality and what they allow, but there are hundreds of others to choose from. If you’re interested, you can check out this list of about 2200.
So what are the benefits, and what do you have to do? First of all, Don’t submit any article that aren’t quality. You don’t want your name on something that isn’t good work. Another thing you DON’T want to do is submit duplicate content, especially stuff you haven’t written. This is bad for your article, and just bad all-around. So don’t just copy other’s material. One useful technique that I’ve found and utilized when I don’t have the time or I don’t want to take the effort to write an article from scratch is this: Find an article that looks good, read it over and make sure it has some good content. Then you cut and paste the article into Google Translator, and translate it into German (you don’t have to do German, I’ve just made a habit of using it because I’ve found it goes back into English smoothest). Once you’ve got it in German, copy it again, and translate it back to English. Go through the article and clean it up, because translator doesn’t always do a great job of going into smooth English.
Make sure that in all your articles you link back to your site, preferably with a hypertext link. If the article site doesn’t accept HTML, then just paste in your URL. This will ensure you get at the least a quality one-way link back to your site. And as any competent Internet Marketer knows, quality one way links are what paves the road to number one Google listings.

How Search Engine Works ?
How Search Engine Works ? :-
Search engines perform several activities in order to deliver search results.- Crawling - is the process of fetching all the web pages linked to a web site. This task is performed by a software, called a crawler or a spider (or Googlebot, as is the case with Google).
- Indexing - is the process of creating index for all the fetched web pages and keeping them into a giant database from where it can later be retrieved. Essentially, the process of indexing is identifying the words and expressions that best describe the page and assigning the page to particular keywords.
- Processing - When a search request comes, the search engine processes it . i.e. it compares the search string in the search request with the indexed pages in the database.
- Calculating Relevancy - Since it is likely that more than one pages contains the search string, so the search engine starts calculating the relevancy of each of the pages in its index to the search string.
- Retrieving Results - The last step in search engines' activities is retrieving the best matched results. Basically, it is nothing more than simply displaying them in the browser.
Search engines such as Google and Yahoo! often update their relevancy algorithm dozens of times per month. When you see changes in your rankings it is due to an algorithmic shift or something else outside of your control.
Although the basic principle of operation of all search engines is the same, the minor differences between their relevancy algorithm lead to major changes in results relevancy.
What is SEO Copywriting? :-
SEO Copywriting is the technique of writing the viewable text on a web page in such a way that it reads well for the surfer, and also targets specific search terms. Its purpose is to rank highly in the search engines for the targeted search terms. As well as the viewable text, SEO Copywriting usually optimizes other on-page elements for the targeted search terms. These include the Title, Description and Keywords tags, headings and alt text.
The idea behind SEO Copywriting is that search engines want genuine content pages and not additional pages (often called "doorway pages") that are created for the sole purpose of achieving high rankings.
What is Search Engine Rank? :-
When you search any keyword using a search engine then it displays thausand of results found in its database. A page ranking is measured by the position of web pages displayed in the search engine results. If Search engine is putting your web page on first position then your web page rank will be number 1 and it will be assumed as with a high rank.SEO is the process of designing and developing a web site to attend a high rank in search engine results.
What is on-page and off-page SEO :-
Conceptually, there are two ways of doing SEO- On-Page SEO- This includes provding good content, good keywords selection. putting keywords on correct places, giving appropriate title to every page etc.
- Off-Page SEO - This includes link building, increasing link popularity by submitting in open directories, search engines, link exchange tec.
What is Googlebot?
Googlebot is Google's web crawling bot (sometimes also called a "spider"). Crawling is the process by which Googlebot discovers new and updated pages to be added to the Google index.
We use a huge set of computers to fetch (or "crawl") billions of pages on the web. Googlebot uses an algorithmic process: computer programs determine which sites to crawl, how often, and how many pages to fetch from each site.
Googlebot's crawl process begins with a list of webpage URLs, generated from previous crawl processes and augmented with Sitemap data provided by webmasters. As Googlebot visits each of these websites it detects links (SRC and HREF) on each page and adds them to its list of pages to crawl. New sites, changes to existing sites, and dead links are noted and used to update the Google index.

Importance of PageRank
PageRank is a numeric value that represents how important a page is on the web. Google figures that when one page links to another page, it is effectively casting a vote for the other page. The more votes that are cast for a page, the more important the page must be. Also, the importance of the page that is casting the vote determines how important the vote itself is. Google calculates a page's importance from the votes cast for it. How important each vote is is taken into account when a page's PageRank is calculated.
PageRank is Google's way of deciding a page's importance. It matters because it is one of the factors that determines a page's ranking in the search results. It isn't the only factor that Google uses to rank pages, but it is an important one.
From here on in, we'll occasionally refer to PageRank as "PR".
Notes :-
Not all links are counted by Google. For instance, they filter out links from known link farms. Some links can cause a site to be penalized by Google. They rightly figure that webmasters cannot control which sites link to their sites, but they can control which sites they link out to. For this reason, links into a site cannot harm the site, but links from a site can be harmful if they link to penalized sites. So be careful which sites you link to. If a site has PR0, it is usually a penalty, and it would be unwise to link to it.

Important HTML tags for SEO
<html> </html> :-
The second HTML tag is the first of the <html> </html> pair. The text between these tags describes the web page, the first appears near the top (the "opening" tag) and the second at the end of the page (the "closing" tag). These should appear only once each on the page.
<head> </head> :-
The third HTML tag is the first of the <head> </head> pair. The text between these tags is not viewable on the web page, but it does contain elements that effect the what is displayed in search return listing in search engines (the page title and description). The head element contains the "title" and "meta" tags These should appear only once each on the page.
<title> </title> :-
The fourth HTML tag is the first of the <title> </title> pair. The text between these tags is the "unique" title of your page, it should contain your key phrase and is a powerful SEO tool. This is the bold text that will display in the search return listing, your first chance to convince a potential viewer to click on the listing and visit your website.
<meta name="description" content="unique description"> :-
The fifth tag is the "meta" description of the web page content, it should appear only once in the head section and be unique. This is the text that will display in the search return listing, under your title information. Don't use duplicate title and description info on your website, each page should have it's own.
<meta name="keywords" content="Key phrase"> :-
The sixth tag is the "meta" keywords tag, this is probably the most misunderstood of the "meta" tags. Historically, this tag was used to provide content that was NOT on the page (think synonyms). Most search engines completely ignore this tag but I use it to help me maintain focus on the key phrase in the web page content.
<meta name="robots" content="INDEX/FOLLOW"> :-
The seventh tag is the "meta" robots tag, it should appear only once in the head section. This tag tells the search engine robots or spiders if you want your page to appear in their index and if you want them to follow the links on the page to other pages on your website.
The example above instructs the robots to add your page to their index and follow links appearing on the web page. If you don't want the page or linked pages listed use the following instead:
<meta name="robots" content="NOINDEX/NOFOLLOW">.
<body> </body> :-
The eighth HTML tag is the first of the <body> </body> pair. The text between these tags describes the visible portion of the web page in the browser window. These should appear only once each on the page.
<h1> </h1> :-
The HTML h1 header tag is the first of the <h1> </h1> pair. The text between these tags describes the "headline" of the content, just like a newspaper uses headlines. The h1 tag should contain your key phrase and should appear only once each on the page.
There are sub-head tag pairs as well, <h2> </h2> through <h6> </h6>. I use key phrase related terms in these also and use the sub-head pairs as often as I feel the content requires them.
TIP: Don't forget the document name!
I save my html pages using document names that reflect the main key phrase. This way your key phrase automatically appears in any link to the web page, i.e. "key_phrase.html" (avoid spaces, I prefer underscores). Links will then appear as "http://www.my_web_site.com/my_key_phrase.html".
